I get the negative reviews. The venue was quite small for the amount of people, it was annoying to share the place with other events and the photographers made me feel uncomfortable from time to time.

But it still was an amazing event. The orga team put a lot of effort in it, you could see. Everybody (staff and people attending) were super friendly and welcoming, making you feel like part of a big group. After 1-2 days everybody had this happy smile on their face from dancing, feeling, socializing, expressing their selfs.

I really liked the topics of the many classes, great, including teachers sharing their knowledge. I leant a lot about my own dancing and improved in feeling, showing what I feel, expressing myself through dance, learning new techniques. There were special classes like for example yoga as well. You could also just rest. There was a good atmosphere. I felt safe, respected and happy. The music was not too loud, even at the parties. It was a lot of fun to dance with so many people or just sit down in between and talk to them, to make some really good connections. And overall it was a lot of fun.

I definitely would go again!

Great opportunity to think partner dancing different!

13 November 2024

Resume - Even though I met nice people and had nice moments, I will not come back as long as this event remains the same.

Location - Very bad. Way too small, smell friture and meat at dinner time, way too hot (felt like in the hammam...). It is not normal to be 100+ in a small room for Brenderson's workshops.

Workshops - Okeyish but did not fulfill the promise of mixing dancing styles. Despite their obvious good skills, some of the teachers were paratrooped in the event without even knowing what fusion is. Workshop were mostly "exploration" focused and very few on technicity.

Music - Lack of variety, I spend half of the time feeling like I wasn't willing to dance on it. Live music was a nice idea but not good quality at all.

Overall organization - Very poor. I paid for additional options that were not filled and will be reimbursed, the care team was not well recognizable nor brieffed, timetables are awful (e.g. lunch time from 15 to 17h). The main organizer does not delegate enough to the volunteers and other co-organizers.

The Photographer - Terrible. I had a photographer at 10cm of my face with an external flash during a breathing workshop, a moment supposed to be calm and focused, and we all complained about it. Most of all, I understand the need for nice pictures but it felt way too much and fabricated.

Conclusion - There is a huge issue of vision of what the event should be. I strongly recomment the organizers to question themselves and start from the basics, including the well-being of the participants and what such an event is supposed to be.

I didn't like that we had to actively seek a partner every time we changed, It causes friction and people tend to stay together whereas other were left out.

Starting from okay to bad.

Venue was okay, though I did see a mouse one time. Music was mixed at best. Somehow lacking variety despite the clear intent. Lots of weird new age low key racist orientalist stuff going on. Didn’t use the access two to rooms well to make sure people who are feeling different moods can find something to dance to. Didn’t really have a flow to the sets probably because DJs were restricted to genres.

Classes were wishy washy feel good self help sessions rather than dance classes. If you’re going to have straight white people discuss gender, maybe you should at least consult queer people and poc or do some sensitivity training before teaching about something from such a hetero perspective. It’s even slightly triggering for the queer people in the room and you can see it.

But all this is whatever. Most importantly, if you’re not going to keep an eye on people and protect them and stop people from behaving inappropriately or taking advantage, maybe you should make a rule to disallow teachers hitting on students in the festival. Meanwhile half the people are singing this person’s praise so any criticism is drowned out and he gets away with it.

✨ Vision

We envision a space where social partner dancers come together as social partner dancers first and then dancers of a style, to recognize that there is one language of social partner dancing and we chose whether or not to dance dialects of that language.

📍 Quick overview

- 3 party nights on 2 dance floors + a pre-party and after-party on November 7th and 11th

- 4 days of workshops of international teachers of different dance style backgrounds

- music of different genres

-super pre-party with live music on November 6th at Frau Mayer( https://www.facebook.com/events/859780659302401 )

🔸 Lessons

Each lesson at the festival is 90 minutes long, that way you and the instructors have plenty of time to dive deep into every topic, over 20 lessons! All the lessons will be on the themes of technique, musicality, or connection in social partner dancing and none of them will be pattern/choreo based. You will be shown and given the tools to create the dances you want between you and your dance partner(s).

🎵 Music

We have looked far and wide for the perfect DJs and musicians to be part of Dance Blender. All of them are versatile in what they play and are ready to have the music dance your socks off, for over 20 hours of parties across two rooms!

We will be having two rooms during the main party with changing themes every hour throughout the night. These themes are dance style agnostic and the majority of the music played will not be of a particular dance style, more details to come.
