Joao Dontana

Joao Dontana comes from Angola.
He learnt traditional Angolan rhythms and dances from an early age. At the age of ten
he started in drumming, dancing and singing in a dance and music group in his African homeland.
Over the years Dontana trained as a dance teacher with renowned professional dance teachers in
Angola and in Europe.
Joao Dontana combines dancing and making music on stage and offers regular intensive classes in
Kizomba, Semba, Afro-Roots dance courses and workshops in Germany.
Beginners, returnees and advanced dancers have the opportunity to dance with Joao Dontana
to learn authentic group, couple, show and solo dances from his native Angola.
He works with professional dance teachers and musicians from Angola, who have performed in
Europe, America, Asia and Australia, at festivals and workshops to promote Angolan dance culture.
Joao Dontana organises the annual Kizomba & Semba Asangi Festival, intensive Kizomba &
Semba workshops and dance parties with international artists from
Angola, dance parties with international artists in Augsburg.
Dancing and making music are his passion.
